G.I. Combat #8

A battalion of American G.I.s assault Hill 927 expecting entrenched Chinese forces, but when they reach the peak, the enemy has vanished without a trace—leaving the soldiers convinced the Reds are still lurking somewhere, waiting to spring a deadly trap. PFC Dawson, more interested in his history books than combat, stumbles onto a crucial discovery that might explain where the hidden enemy is concealed. With night falling and an attack surely coming, the unit must uncover the source of the danger before the Reds emerge from their mysterious hiding place.

Private Charlie Longhorse, a full-blooded Cheyenne and the clumsiest soldier in Dog Company, stumbles through basic duties in a Korean War bunker—until enemy mortars rain down and Chinese forces attack the ridge. When Sergeant Keller dismisses his clumsy bravery, Longhorse begs for a midnight solo mission: let him trade his heavy G.I. boots for moccasins and he'll creep up the slope to destroy the enemy mortar positions that have pinned down the whole company. Moving silent as a shadow in traditional footwear, he proves that his heritage and instincts are exactly what the fight demands.

A U.N. supply train runs supplies and reinforcements to Communist forces deep in Korean territory—protected by tunnels and mountain overhangs that make it impossible for Allied air strikes or artillery to touch it. When Corporal Case learns that his wounded buddy was caught in an ambush meant to stop the train's resupply, he volunteers for what amounts to a suicide mission: to slip behind enemy lines alone and destroy the rail line before dawn. With nothing but his ranger training and determination, Case must navigate deep into Red territory, outthink enemy patrols, and reach the tracks in time.
