May 1991 · Marvel · 1.00 USD; 1.25 CAD; 0.60 GBP
“Who's the Hero?”

In "Who's the Hero?", the G.I. Joe team splits under pressure as the ninjas battle the night creepers during a recon mission, only to be drawn into a trap after a Tele-Viper reports a five-minute communications blackout. With the Commander realizing the Joes are in Benzheen, Stalker's team emerges from the shadows—having jammed the signals themselves—to join forces with the ninjas and Flint's captured unit, but not before Cool Breeze pays the ultimate price. As Hawk faces the grim task of burying eight fallen comrades, the stakes rise in this tense, pivotal chapter written by Larry Hama and illustrated by John Statema, with inks by Randy Emberlin and colors by Bob Sharen. The cover, by Lee Weeks, captures the moment's intensity.

The Joe ninjas take on the night creepers while on recon, and later face the SAW-Viper after a Tele-Viper reports to the Commander that all communications were jammed for five minutes, making him realize the Joes are in Benzheen. The jamming was done by Stalker's team, who later join up with the ninjas and Flint's captured team, freeing them, but at the cost of Cool Breeze's life. Now Hawk has to bury 8 Joes.
