“Standoff”

In "Standoff," the Joes pull off a daring rescue in Borovia, pulling Hawk and Lady Jaye from the clutches of the former regime’s secret police. With Firefly betraying the Pit III’s location to Cobra Commander on Cobra Island, the Commander makes a grim decision—burying Firefly in the freighter’s depths while unleashing the brainwashed Ninja Force, hidden inside the stolen 747, to free him. Written by Larry Hama and illustrated by Andrew Wildman, with inks by Stephen Baskerville, colors by Bob Sharen, and lettering by Rick Parker, the issue’s cover by Wildman and Baskerville captures the tension of the moment.

The Joes rescue Hawk and Lady Jaye in Borovia from the former regime's secret police. Firefly sells the Pit III's location to Cobra Commander at their meeting on Cobra Island, and the Commander reburies him inside the freighter on the island after checking the information for legitimacy, leaving the brainwashed Ninja Force to free him once again (who were hidden inside the 747 Firefly stole to get to the island) as the Commander goes to attack the Pit III.
