"Happy Homer," illustrated by Clint Harrison, follows Homer as he loses his billfold and philosophically accepts that whoever finds it will keep it, only to reconsider when he learns someone actually did find and is keeping it. In the main story, Gabby Hayes helps drive away a locust plague threatening a rancher's land by scaring the insects with gulls, then assists Mayor Naze in resolving a crisis when Miser Abel's refusal to pay taxes leaves the town without hospital beds and volunteer tax collectors; Gabby ultimately helps pay Abel's hospital bills when the miser ends up needing medical care himself.
Doc Holliday, a dentist with a deadly draw, finds his skills tested in Denver when a rival gunslinger challenges him to a showdown. As tensions rise, Doc must rely on his quick reflexes and sharp aim to survive a deadly confrontation in the frontier town.
In the rugged frontier of Gold Creek Camp, Gabby Hayes devises a clever plan to protect the miners’ gold by melting it into four ordinary-looking wagon wheels, disguising the treasure as scrap. When bandits target the seemingly empty wagon, Gabby’s ruse backfires as his strange behavior in Rawhide raises suspicion, leading to a chaotic chase and a showdown where his quick thinking and a well-timed rope trick expose the real thieves.
Still the Champ! centers on a boastful challenger who arrives in town to prove Chief Gray Matter isn’t as smart as people claim. The two engage in a riddle contest, with the challenger stumped by a clever puzzle—only to admit defeat when the Chief reveals the answer: a map. The story ends with the challenger sheepishly conceding, riding off in defeat.
In "The Locust Roundup," Gabby Hayes faces off against a massive locust swarm threatening the Bar Nothing Ranch, using unorthodox tactics including luring gulls with fish to devour the pests. As he races to save the land, a rival schemes to exploit the crisis, leading to a chaotic showdown where birds, bugs, and bluffing cowboys collide.
Young Falcon ventures into the wilderness to confront the legendary grizzly bear, only to uncover a shocking truth: the beast is not alone, and its deadly tactics rely on cunning teamwork. As he pieces together the clues from the bear tracks, he must outthink a predator that uses deception to trap the young warriors of the Onadontas.
Gabby Hayes takes on the daunting task of collecting taxes from the stubborn, money-obsessed rancher Abel, whose fortified estate turns every collector into a casualty. With the town’s school funds at risk and the sheriff away, Gabby’s unorthodox methods and sheer stubbornness put him at odds with Abel’s guards, wild animals, and even the local hounds—while a young helper named Tippy quietly watches for a chance to turn the tide.
