"The Raven" by Peter Chapman follows characters Grant and Corky as they attempt to slip past Indians guarding a ship on a river, with Grant later discovering a mysterious beautiful woman—the Vampire—hiding in the aircraft's luggage room near Rangoon. "Prendergast and Midshipman Breezy" depicts a comedic naval encounter where Breezy introduces Midshipman Prendergast to the captain's daughter, leading to various mishaps and misunderstandings aboard ship. Additional stories featuring "The Vampire," "The Case of the Haunted Piercrust," and other adventures round out the issue.
When a mysterious pie cries out from the harbour, Padlock Holmes teams up with Dr. Watsof to investigate what seems like an impossible crime—only to discover talking machines hidden in everyday household items, masterminded by Holmes's old nemesis Dr. Mortuarty. Trapped in the villain's hideout and facing an ingenious (and absurd) method of execution, Holmes must use his wits and whatever's at hand to escape and stop Mortuarty's scheme for mass pandemonium.
