"Powerhouse of Deceit" follows Midge, a sportswriter, whose editor Harris asks her to cover an assignment for the sports department. While waiting outside Harris's office, she meets Roy, who expresses concern about her working too hard and invites her to skip dinner to attend a boxing match at the Clover Hill Arena instead. During their outing, Roy reveals his deep love for Midge and his wish that she would be as sure of their relationship as he is. At the boxing match, Midge and Roy witness a bizarre bank robbery staged on a nearby Hollywood street as part of a movie production with hidden cameras, which frightens Midge. Later, at a football game, Roy proposes that they leave town together, but Midge declines, suggesting they simply enjoy time together before she departs for her job, ultimately leaving Roy alone in his car.
