Great Western #1 is an anthology featuring Western stories. "Red Hawk" tells of two old companions—Red Hawk and Bigfoot—who fall into battle after evil medicine brewed by a Cheyenne shaman named Smoke Dog drives them apart, with Red Hawk ultimately defeating Bigfoot and becoming one of the chosen warriors sent to the happy hunting grounds. "Straight Arrow" follows a wild horse discovered starving in a secret mine tunnel in Sundown Valley; when townspeople capture the horse, a man named Straight Arrow emerges to stop them, leading to a pursuit and showdown where Straight Arrow is revealed to still be alive and fighting.
