Mar 2019 · Zenescope Entertainment · 3.99 USD

Gretel #1 (2019) introduces a haunting reimagining of the classic fairy tale, following Gretel as she flees the witch who captured her and her brother—haunted by the terrible choice she made to survive. Written by Joe Brusha, Ralph Tedesco, Dave Franchini, and Ben Meares, with art by Allan Otero and coloring by Ceci de la Cruz, the story begins with her fateful encounter with Samuel, a witch hunter who becomes her mentor. Cover by Igor Vitorino captures the dark, brooding tone of a tale where vengeance and power come at a steep price.

Gretel escapes from the witch that captured her and her brother, but she believes herself damned because she ate part of her brother's heart when it was offered by the witch. A chance meeting with Samuel, a witch hunter, gives her purpose as he trains her to kill witches in revenge. Years later, after killing several witches (and gaining their powers) she meets Samuel again but leads one of their enemies to him.
