In "Early to Bed," young Richie takes his teacher Mr. Rich’s advice to heart, determined to make the most of his day by rising early. But when he’s tasked with hauling the football team’s gear to an out-of-town game, his resolve is tested as fatigue sets in—napping attempts are interrupted by school duties, a surprise visit from a classmate, and a last-minute call to suit up. As he plays in the game, drowsy and half-awake, he makes the winning touchdown, only to collapse into bed at home, where his father assumes he’s been lounging all day.

In "For the Birds," Gloria gives Richie a pet parakeet named Jo-Jo, but when the bird flies out an open window, chaos ensues—staff, friends, and even strangers join a frantic search across the estate. As the hunt stretches on, everyone from Freckles to the gardener starts buying new parakeets, unaware that Jo-Jo has already returned to Gloria’s house. By the time Richie comes home, his room is filled with dozens of identical birds, and he’s left wondering which one is his.
