In "Chapter One: The Feud," Thane of Bagarth Hrothelac is thrust into a deadly conflict when a peasant's death sparks retaliation between his men and those of neighboring Rothor. With King Beowulf demanding proof of Garmscio’s guilt, Hrothelac turns to his younger brother Eowanda—unaware that Eowanda, like Garmscio, harbors ambitions to seize power.

In "Chapter Three: Banishment," Hrothelac is accused of treason by forged documents implicating him in a conspiracy with the Swedes, leading King Beowulf to order his capture. Though Hrothelac suspects his ally Daeghred of betrayal, he is seized and banished, unaware that the true machinations lie elsewhere. The Thane of Bagarth watches as Beowulf’s decision to grant him the title of Bagarth threatens to unravel Eowanda’s plans.
