Hi-School Romance #36
In "I Was an Outcast!", George, a returning veteran struggling to fit back into high school life, finds unexpected support in Eve—only to face heartbreak when he sees her with another boy on Prom night. Drawn to the rougher south side of town, George rebuilds himself quietly, proving his worth not through words but through action. The story unfolds with quiet emotional weight, capturing the loneliness of returning home and the fragile hope of second chances, all rendered with heartfelt sincerity by John Sink on art and inks. The cover by Al Avison captures the moment’s tension with a striking, moody portrait.

Before going into the service, everyone thought George was a misfit. And after 18 months, when he returned to finish high school, he felt like a fish out of water save for Eve. Eve believed in him and knew he would succeed. But while he survived combat, school and teachers were more than he could take. Asking Eve to wait for him, he left town, only to return on Prom night to see Eve with Jim Neely. Feeling rejected again, George moved to the scary south side. When Eve finally found him she learned that not only had he been faithful to her, he had a job and worked to keep slum kids off the street. Admitting she was wrong, she ran to his arms and asked him to forgive her.
