Rick Roberts is hired to race his Ford in a 200-mile special event on Saturday, and he and his crew prepare a modified 427 Cube Ford for the qualifying heats. During the race, Rick competes against a mysterious hooded driver in a red Maserati who deliberately forces Rick off the track at a fork, causing him to crash into an about-face; the hooded driver is revealed to be or suspected of being the evil Baron von Trawitz. The story concludes with Rick's red car pursued by the Maserati toward a closed drawbridge spanning a wide river, resulting in a dramatic crash as the bridge rises.
