In 1936, Bill Roberts prepares to race in the French Grand Prix, unaware of the ominous warning from his father, Pat Roberts, who claims the day is cursed by a black cat that doomed him decades earlier. As the race begins, old fears resurface when an eerie old woman appears, chanting a gypsy curse that foretells the same fate will strike Bill—exactly thirty years after his father’s crash.

Clint, a young man with a badly injured dog in his car, tries to get past a reckless teenage driver, Pamela Vandergrift, who refuses to yield despite his honking. After she panics and veers off the road, Clint is pulled over and brought before her father, the police commissioner, who demands an explanation.

After being pulled over and briefly detained, they’re given a chance to settle their rivalry with city racers not with fists, but on the drag strip—proving their skill and earning respect through speed and precision.

Clint Curtis and the Golden Boy, Gary, face off in a tense Soap Box Derby race where the choice of lane is decided by a coin flip, giving Clint the advantage—but Gary’s determination to win pushes him to take a risky move that could cost him everything. As the race unfolds, both boys push their cars to the limit, testing their skill and resolve in a showdown that ends in a photo-finish and a surprising moment of sportsmanship.
