“Turning Point!”

In "Turning Point!", the Hulk, convinced the Silver Surfer is an alien threat, charges into battle with the only being on Earth who might match his strength. Stan Lee's story, illustrated with dynamic flair by Marie Severin and Frank Giacoia, explores a rare moment of introspection as the Surfer, intrigued by the Hulk's condition, attempts to understand the source of his rage—only for the Hulk to awaken and misinterpret the gesture as an assault. Cover by Marie Severin, this 1984 Marvel UK pocket book offers a poignant, character-driven clash that sets the stage for a personal quest beyond Earth.

Having 'caught' the Silver Surfer (believing him to be an alien starship), Hulk starts a fight with perhaps the only being on Earth stronger than Hulk is. The Surfer, irritated, knocks him out, then probes Hulk to discover the reason for his belligerence and discovers the damage done by the gamma radiation. Just as the Surfer prepares to reverse the damage and return Dr. Banner's life, Hulk wakes up and, seeing the action as an attack, lashes out. Disgusted, the Surfer leaves while Hulk vows to find the Surfer again and force him to take Hulk to the stars.
