“Childe's Play”

In "Childe's Play," Candy and Matt step into the high-stakes world of I.F.X. Games, where Childe reveals a startling truth: video games are gateways to another realm, home to extra-dimensional sentients hungry to conquer our own. As Childe fixates on Candy, believing her to be a rare digital anomaly, the mystery deepens—her connection to the real Candice, the test subject who vanished during a game trial, may be far more than coincidence. Written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, with art by Kalman Andrasofszky and Eric Vedder, and a cover by Scott Iwahashi, this 2004 issue blends sci-fi intrigue with a haunting personal thread.

Candy and Matt arrive at I.F.X. Games, where Childe tells them that video games are a doorway to another world filled with extra-dimensional sentients (EDS) that want to take over our world. Childe wants to study Candy because he believes that she is a new kind of bit-map, but it turns out that Candy is flesh and blood, and is based on the real Candice, who disappeared while testing video games for Childe.
