Ruth is married to college professor John; she is disappointed in his low salary and their concomitant low standard of living. When her former beau Tom arrives, Ruth finds herself wishing she’d married him. Tom urges her to leave John and run away with him, and she finally agrees. However, the Dean takes Ruth to a ceremony where John receives an award for his teaching: John thanks Ruth for her support, so she decides to stay with him.
