A woman struggles to support her husband Bill's career ambitions, working hard to maintain their life together while he pursues sales success, but their marriage deteriorates when Bill becomes obsessed with advancing to the top and neglects her emotional needs. After Bill demands she stop "kidding herself" about being a great salesman's wife and threatens to find someone who can, she decides to pursue her own life and they divorce. Following the split, she travels extensively and enjoys a carefree social life, eventually finding happiness in Reno, Palm Beach, Lake Placid, Saratoga, Ciro's, and Las Vegas before ultimately reconciling with Bill at a nightclub where they reunite with genuine affection.
