Idol of Flesh #2
"Shadow Over Darkcliff" delivers a simmering, surreal descent into dread and desire in Idol of Flesh #2 (1993). Written and illustrated entirely by John Blackburn, the story follows Coley and Jenny as they survive a crash only to be ensnared in a web of secrets at Darkcliff, a place haunted by past trauma and buried power. As tensions rise and relationships blur, Coley uncovers a chilling truth about Garth’s intentions—and the horrifying price of his own survival. The cover by John Blackburn captures the story’s brooding intensity, perfectly framing a tale where trust is a weapon and the line between salvation and sacrifice is dangerously thin.

Coley & Jenny survive the crash, but Coley is almost beaten to death by Officer Jack. Tanner later releases him, saying Father O'Brien cleared him of any charges. Coley accepts the invitation of Garth, who reveals he blackmailed the priest into dropping the charges. Coley, Kit & Jenny spend time at Darkcliff, the same place Coley was almost killed a year earlier, which Garth has bought & restored. Following several days of relaxing, intrigue and sex (between Coley & Jenny, Coley & Kit, Kit & Jenny, and Coley & Dirk), Coley discovers what's really going on. Garth, a half-human descendant of Shub Niggurath, an "elder god", is determined to open a dimensional doorway for their return-- by sacrificing Coley! Jenny is killed, but once again Coley's hypnotic voodoo powers prevail. Tanner, who's learned the truth about what happened at O'Brien's church, tells Coley he wants him to leave town and never come back. Coley assures Kit, who now loves Coley deeply, that she hasn't seen the last of him.
