This fifth issue of Vertigo's Jack of Fables plunges headlong into a world of fire and chaos, with a wide-eyed Jack sprinting toward the viewer through a churning inferno, suitcase in hand, while a glowing-eyed companion rushes close behind and a massive, roaring demonic face looms ominously above them both. James Jean's cover work is stunning — the rich reds and molten oranges give the whole image an urgent, hellish energy that's hard to look away from. With Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges crafting the story and Tony Akins and Andrew Pepoy handling interior art, this is Vertigo mature-readers storytelling firing on all cylinders.
