Jesse James leaves the California gold fields to visit his Uncle Drury at his ranch, which is threatened by the outlaw Hank Burdock and his gang. When masked bandits attack a stagecoach carrying supplies for the ranch, Jesse intervenes, leading to a gunfight that kills the stagecoach guard. Jesse then discovers a mysterious beast called "Bone-Crusher" terrorizing the ranch and the surrounding area, killing cattle and threatening the locals. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies coordinate efforts to catch the bandits by tracking their spending habits, and a detective named Merrill works undercover to infiltrate the gang, eventually leading to a confrontation where law enforcement closes in on the criminals.
