This anthology issue contains two stories: the main story "Joe Yank Becomes a Model Soldier" follows Joe as he receives numerous fan letters from home, including romantic correspondence, which boosts his morale despite his lonely circumstances as a soldier. "Pinhead Perkins, P.F.C. in It Pays to Advertise" depicts a soldier stationed in Florida who attempts to find the bright side of his posting despite his misfortunes, including a mishap at base headquarters. The issue also features "McGurk Runs Wild in Operation Woo-Woo," in which McGurk becomes involved in military operations centered around a female character.

Contains 5 stories
Operation Woo-Woo
7 pp · War

When a rumor about the glamorous movie star Marilyn Winters sets the camp buzzing, Private Joe Yank finds himself assigned as her bodyguard—a detail that puts him in direct conflict with his rival, Sergeant Mike McGurk. As the two soldiers navigate their tangled duties and competing interests, a far more serious threat emerges when communist operatives kidnap the starlet, forcing the feuding buddies to put aside their differences and pursue the enemy.

Pill-Box Serenade
7 pp · War

Corporal Davey Lane is a lonely soldier who receives a harmonica as a gift from a sympathetic buddy, and through determination learns to play one tune: "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles"—much to his outfit's exasperation. When the unit moves into combat and launches an assault on an enemy pill-box, Davey's humble gift becomes something far more meaningful than anyone expected.

It Pays to Advertise!
6 pp · Humor, War

Pinhead Perkins, a hapless P.F.C., catches a lucky break when the colonel's daughter picks him to model for an advertising campaign—until his barracks mates scheme to lock him away so Sergeant Gribble can take his place instead. After a wild series of mishaps involving laundry bags and the WACs' barracks, Pinhead makes it to the photo shoot, only to discover his mug plastered across billboards nationwide as the face of Vito Vitamin Pills, looking every bit the chowder head. When Sarge finally sees the advertisement, his fury turns to gratitude in the funniest possible way.

Fighting Parson
1 pp · Biography

Chaplain Charles A. Meek earns the nickname "Chappy" among the soldiers of the 180th Infantry Regiment for his unflinching courage under fire—a reputation built through years of service from the Marine Corps to Korea. When the Thunderbirds assault T-Bone Hill in June 1952, Meek must decide whether to stay safe with the reserves or join his men on the front lines where they need him most. This true account celebrates the real-life hero who proved that spiritual leadership means standing shoulder-to-shoulder with those he serves, no matter the cost.

Model Soldier
7 pp · War

When Joe Yank's pass lands him face-to-face with the glamorous magazine cover painter Toni Bryant in Korea, he quickly learns she's also the General's daughter—and the M.P.s aren't about to let a wiseguy G.I. get fresh with her. Before Joe can say "I'm sorry," he's drafted into posing as the "typical soldier" for her painting, a gig that's supposed to take weeks and keep him far from the front lines. But when a hidden enemy infiltrator makes his move during a painting session, Joe gets the chance to prove he's more than just a pretty face in uniform.
