In "The Stranger's Revenge," Wayne helps solve a murder mystery at the Keel's Ranch, where a man named Henry Marker has been killed and an important envelope containing evidence of a mortgage payment has disappeared, while a woman named Miss Murdock seeks justice for her murdered brother. In the second story, Wayne is aboard a ship where he confronts a crew of thieves, smugglers, and murderers; the ship's captain proposes they settle their dispute through hand-to-hand combat, with the winner claiming the vessel and determining its course.
John Wayne and Bonanza Bill arrive at a burned ranch to find Lariat Thompson, a man consumed by grief over his daughter’s betrayal. As they follow clues into the Amazon Hills, they confront the mysterious woman who destroyed his home—Lariat’s daughter, a fierce and vengeful figure who has sworn hatred against all men.
In the dusty frontier town of 1950, John Wayne arrives at the depot to meet Bill Keels’ son, Avant, only to find the boy dead and the townsfolk quick to blame him. As a mob demands justice, Wayne flees, pursued by both the law and the man who claims to be Avant’s father—Bill Keels—whose true motives remain shrouded in mystery.
John Wayne and Bonanza are on their way to a doctor for Bonanza’s broken arm when they discover the murdered doctor’s office and a missing sealed envelope meant for John Wayne. The envelope’s disappearance leads them to suspect the ruthless rancher Henry Marker, who stands to gain from the doctor’s death and the loss of a crucial mortgage receipt. As they ride into danger, they’re pursued by Marker’s men, who see Bonanza as the key to a hidden fortune—and a target to eliminate.
John Wayne and Bonanza’s celebration in a West Coast port city takes a wild turn when Bonanza’s birthday wish leads them into a mysterious waterfront shop—and into a dangerous entanglement with a shadowy ship’s crew. Soon after, they’re shanghaied onto a smuggling vessel, where they must endure brutal labor and outwit the ship’s ruthless captain, Iron Ginty, in a fight for freedom.
Silent Sam recounts a tense showdown from his past, when he tracked down Black Pete—a man accused of murdering defenseless travelers—through the wilderness, using cunning and deception to outwit a group of renegade Indians who had taken him for dead. As he leads a young boy through the story, Sam reveals how he tricked the attackers into burning their own camp, then pursued Black Pete across the frontier, closing in on him at the border.
