On a lonely mountain farm, a scheming pair—the hired man Rufe and his accomplice Lizzie—plot to murder old Abner Baines and claim his hidden fortune, devising what they believe is the perfect crime: replacing the farm's worn scarecrow with Abner's body so it will hide in plain sight. But when they return to search for the treasure, they find the scarecrow gone, and something far more sinister waiting for them in the cornfield.
