Jungle Girl #1
The main story, "Perils of Nyoka," follows the jungle girl Nyoka as she battles the villainous Vultura, who seeks to obtain sacred tablets of Hippocrates and containers filled with explosives of her own invention. Nyoka infiltrates Vultura's stronghold in disguise, rescues a prisoner from torture, and engages in combat with Vultura's forces while attempting to prevent the explosives from being detonated. After Nyoka defeats Vultura and a shadow beast, the stolen wealth and tablets are recovered and dedicated to building hospitals and healing the sick, with the story concluding as Nyoka reflects on her victory.
Nyoka and Dr. Larry Grayson push deeper into the Valley of Sacrifice seeking ancient treasures, but the cunning Vultura arrives first—disguising herself as a goddess to turn the local Tuareg warriors against them. As traps spring and deception unravels, Nyoka and Larry must outthink both a village in thrall to false faith and the scientist-chieftain's deadly explosives if they hope to survive this chapter's shocking finale.
When a bomb trap destroys their only clue to finding the golden tablets, Dr. Larry Grayson and Nyoka press deeper into the treacherous valley—only to discover that Vultura, the ruthless villain, has captured someone far more important: Nyoka's own father, Henry Gordon. As Nyoka and Larry fight their way into Vultura's stronghold to rescue him, they'll have to contend with deadly traps, a rogue's army, the ferocious ape Satan, and the vengeful sorceress herself in a desperate race to free the captive before time runs out.
Nyoka races to rescue a man being tortured by the villain Vultura's henchman Count Torrini, only to find herself captured alongside her father Henry Gordon—who's lost his memory and doesn't recognize her. With Dr. Larry Grayson's help, the three escape a burning fortress, and after a dangerous brain operation restores Gordon's mind, he reveals the golden tablets are hidden in the Shrine of the Moon Goddess back in Tuareg Valley. But when they return to claim the treasure, Vultura and her ally Satan the ape spring a deadly trap, and a hidden mechanism threatens to seal their fate.
Deep in the Cave of the Wind, Nyoka and Dr. Larry Grayson race to recover the golden tablets before a trap set by a vengeful foe brings the cavern down around them—and a new threat emerges when the villainous Vultura tracks them to the forbidden city of Wadi Bartha. With Ahmed at her side and a city full of enemies between them, Larry must find a way to keep the tablets from falling into Vultura's hands before she unlocks their secrets.
Nyoka and her father rally their allies to rescue Dr. Larry Grayson and reclaim the sacred tablets from the villainous Vultura, leading to a desperate confrontation where the jungle girl must outwit both her enemy and the fierce ape Satan. As the battle reaches its climax, Nyoka discovers that the legendary treasure has been hidden beneath her own temple all along—and must decide what to do with such immense wealth and power.
Willie Wynn whips up a super-strong adhesive in his garage shed while tinkering with materials for national defense, but when the volatile concoction detonates, the real trouble begins—his glue works so well that it catches the attention of the military, leading to a test that goes spectacularly awry when General McFuttle finds himself literally stuck to the runway. This lighthearted 1942 romp showcases just how unpredictable—and sticky—good intentions can become when science meets the home front.
