“Episode One: Cornerstone”

In "Episode One: Cornerstone," the Justice Society of America faces a mystery that stretches beyond time itself as Jay Garrick prepares to take office as Mayor of Monument Point. When Dr. Fate returns wounded and without his usual power, the JSA is thrown into turmoil—especially when Per Degaton appears at their headquarters, claiming to know their future sins and wielding unsettling new abilities. With Jesse Quick holding him captive, the villain's cryptic warning lingers: the fate of the world may rest on her shoulders. Written by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Tom Derenick, with colors by Mike Atiyeh and letters by Rob Leigh, the cover by Felipe Massafera captures the tension of a society on the brink.

On the day Jay Garrick is to be installed as Mayor of Monument Point, Dr. Fate returns, injured and without Lightning. Later, during the inauguration ceremony itself, Per Degaton appears in JSA headquarters sporting new abilities and a new look, with a grudge against the JSA not for what they have already done, but for what they will do in the future. Jesse Quick snatches the villain and places him in a secure holding cell, but not before he remarks on the irony that it is she who will be responsible for what will happen to the world.
