Tom Redhouse, a weary and disillusioned man, is forced by two desperate outlaws to lead them across the scorching White Sands Desert to his father’s hidden wickiup in Two Mule Canyon, where gold is said to lie. As the trio struggles through brutal heat and dwindling supplies, their trust erodes when they discover that the water-holes are dry—only to learn that Tom’s father has long known the desert’s hidden sources and that the treasure may not be what they believe.

Kid Montana receives a cryptic warning note in the mountains near the Mexican border, leading him to suspect a trap set by the outlaw Manuel Mantilla. After outwitting a Yaqui scout and evading pursuit, he arrives in the town of San Lucas, where he finds his friends Thunder and Whistler imprisoned and facing a rigged trial orchestrated by Mantilla.
