Knockout Comic #489 is an anthology featuring multiple stories. "Daffy the Deputy Sheriff" shows the bumbling lawman attempting to photograph escaped convict Slippery Sam with a camera, but Sam repeatedly escapes in slapstick fashion. "Tough and Happy" follows two orphans, Tod and Annie, who encounter Silas Stiggins and become involved in a chaotic adventure at an orphanage, ultimately thwarting his schemes. "Buffalo Bill" depicts the frontier hero rescuing a young girl and doctor from Red Indians with the aid of Captain Sam Benbow. "The Young Trail Busters" is a longer story featuring Ronnie Dawes and her companions attempting to stop bandits who have kidnapped her sister Rita, with a doctor named Pete Fincher trapped in the middle of the conflict.
