About this Issue

Korak #60 (1973) is part of the long-running Norwegian-language reprint series launched by Illustrerte Klassikere / Williams Forlag in 1966, which brought Edgar Rice Burroughs's jungle hero to Scandinavian readers for the first time in a dedicated comic format. The series played a meaningful role in the international reach of the Burroughs Tarzan franchise, demonstrating that Korak — whose civilian name is John 'Jack' Clayton III, the son of Tarzan and Jane — had an audience well beyond North America. By 1973 the Norwegian publisher had simultaneously launched a companion title, Korak & Co, to carry the new DC Comics material, meaning issue #60 of the original series represents the mature phase of a dual-track publishing strategy that served both classic Gold Key material and contemporary DC stories to Norwegian readers.

History

Illustrerte Klassikere / Williams Forlag began publishing Norwegian-language Korak comics in October 1966, reprinting stories from Gold Key's Edgar Rice Burroughs Korak, Son of Tarzan series. Those Gold Key issues featured scripts predominantly by Gaylord Du Bois and art by Russ Manning, Dan Spiegle, and others. Williams Forlag printed the issues in Poland at the standard Scandinavian comics format (approximately 25 × 17.5 cm, staple-bound), translating the original American stories for Norwegian readers under the editorial oversight of the publisher's local staff. By issue #60 in 1973 the series was drawing on Gold Key issues from the late 1960s to early 1970s portion of that run.
