The second volume of L'École Abracadabra — subtitled Le Gratin des magiciens — arrives with a cover brimming with playful charm, courtesy of Corteggiani and Tranchand. On a sunny yellow background, a rotund wizard in a star-spangled blue robe sits cross-legged, blowing a trumpet as musical notes float into a winding magical hose that snakes its way toward two young apprentice witches in tall black hats, who watch with bemused expressions. It's a delightfully absurd scene that captures the comic spirit of this 2011 Dargaud series perfectly — magic school has never looked this entertainingly chaotic.
