“L'inévitable cataclysme”

"L'inévitable cataclysme" delivers a taut, globe-spanning thriller in L'Inattendu #10 (1977), a standout issue from the Arédit-Artima era. When Fury discovers an asteroid hurtling toward Earth, he and pilot Cliff Randall race to the Central Andes, where they uncover a hidden mountain base run by the enigmatic Others—beings who once survived a cataclysm by opening a dimensional rift. With the fate of the planet hanging in the balance, the true purpose of the Impact Inducer is revealed in chilling detail. Written by Roy Thomas, Frank Springer, and Archie Goodwin, and illustrated with bold precision by Frank Springer (with inks by the same), the story unfolds with a sense of urgent mystery. The cover by Frank Springer captures the moment of dread just before the inevitable.

Fury learns that an asteroid is being drawn off-course directly toward Earth, with impact only hours away. Fury and ace pilot Cliff Randall race to the Central Andes, hoping to find whatever is pulling the asteroid from its normal orbit. There, they find a hidden base built inside a mountain run by a group of beings called The Others. Twenty years earlier, the tyrant of their dimension, facing revolt, set off an Impact Inducer which would destroy everything. Now, to duplicate the exact conditions that opened the dimensional gateway, they plan to use the asteroid to destroy the entire Earth.
