L'irrationnel et un café #[nn]

Published by L'Association in 2003, this French-language work from Baladi presents a wonderfully strange cover: a long-haired figure with a furrowed, expressive face exhales a ribbon of smoke that winds its way toward a small, dark hunched animal squatting in the corner. The minimalist two-tone artwork perfectly captures the off-kilter, contemplative mood the title L'irrationnel et un café ("The Irrational and a Coffee") promises. It's a quietly surreal invitation from one of France's more distinctive alternative comics voices.
