Lash LaRue must stop a gang of outlaws led by Thunder Bear who are stealing ammunition and planning to ambush cavalry reinforcements at Hayton's General Store. When Lash discovers that Thunder Bear's men have hidden themselves in wagons to surprise the soldiers, he uses his whip to create a distraction, causing gunfire that alerts the cavalry to the danger and forces the villains to surrender. Later, Lash must clear himself of suspicion when a former rodeo rival named Spurs becomes jealous of Lash's past relationship with a woman named MacLain, leading Spurs to attempt to frame Lash for the earlier crimes.

The plan backfires spectacularly when the explosion Dusty claims to have survived is actually the result of a railroad crew clearing the land, leaving him with a bruised body and a fired status.

In the midst of a Wild West rodeo, the newly crowned champion rider Spurs Downey faces a series of suspicious accidents that threaten his life, leaving the roving marshal Lash Larue to investigate.
