This issue contains two main stories: "Wagonwheels," a safety-focused educational tale about children debating whether a safety pin or wagon wheel is the greatest invention, with the conclusion that the safety pin is the tops; and "Mountain March," a Western narrative in which Don Alessandro is approached by Señor Boardman to rescue emigrants trapped on the other side of the mountains in deep snow with depleted food and missing animals. The Boardman story reveals a hidden conflict—Señor Boardman's daughter loves Don Alessandro's son Ferdinand, and the father had previously opposed their marriage, but now seeks to use the rescue mission to prove his worthiness. The final pages show Lash LaRue attempting to stop a gang of henchmen who have stolen a typewriter and valuable valuables from a general store.
