Sur Krypton, Jor-L revient chez lui à super-vitesse pour bondir sur son balcon à plusieurs centaines de mètres en l'air. Il rejoint Lara sa femme qui vient d'accoucher. La famille est tout à son bonheur lorsqu'un tremblement de terre se produit. Leur immeuble s'écroule et Jor-L ressort indemne des décombres. Il soulève ensuite à bout de bras des pans entiers de murs en cherchant Lara et Kal-L. Il les trouve enfin indemne. Ils partent ensuite à son laboratoire où il travaille pendant des jours. Ses conclusions sont terribles et Lara doit insister pour en connaître la teneur. Il lui apprend que la planète est condamnée et que le prochain tremblement de terre majeur réduira la planète en morceaux. Sur la terrasse du laboratoire Lara a du mal à croire à cette révélation alors que tout est si paisible. Elle regarde le ciel étoilé et envie les habitants des autres planètes qui doivent mener une vie insouciante. Jor-L s'écrie alors qu'il a la solution. Il va construire un vaisseau qui va les emmener sur une autre planète.
