Jean-Christophe Chauzy opens this Casterman series with a cover that immediately sets a somber, contemplative mood — two small figures, one adult and one child, stand atop a vast landscape of crumbled stone and rubble, dwarfed by a gnarled, weathered tree clinging to a rocky outcrop above them. The muted, ink-washed palette of greys and browns lends L'Effondrement ("The Collapse") an atmosphere of quiet devastation that feels both intimate and enormous.
