A single golden leaf — torn at its edge and glowing against a dense, intricate field of darkly rendered foliage — makes for one of the most quietly arresting covers of 2015. Daishu Ma's artwork here is meticulous and meditative, the contrast between that luminous yellow shape and the shadowy grey-green leaves surrounding it immediately drawing the eye. If this cover is any indication, Leaf promises a graphic novel with a strong sense of atmosphere and a deeply personal visual voice.
