Les Poissart #2

Tronchet's lovably down-on-their-luck Poissart family returns for a second volume, subtitled Pauvres mais fiers — "Poor but Proud" — and the cover says it all: four cheerful characters gathered around a garden table with fancy cocktail glasses, a beat-up caravan parked behind them, scattered debris all around, yet a beach umbrella raised defiantly overhead. It's a wonderfully warm snapshot of people making the best of very little, and Tronchet's expressive, rubbery linework gives the whole scene an irresistible comic warmth. Published by Glénat's Drugstore imprint in 2011, this album is a charming celebration of scrappy optimism.
