Brett Marlowe and his chauffeur, Rusty Race, witness a television star named Glyn Corton attacked on a train to London, though the assailant escapes before Brett can catch him. Corton reveals he's been receiving threatening extortion letters, but claims he's never seen his attacker before—though a stick of grease paint left behind offers a curious clue.
