Betty tries to be Little Archie's friend, but he's not interested in being friends with a girl. What he's interested in is fishing, but when he takes his father's rod and reel without permission, he loses it in the middle of Weedum Pond. The only person who can tell him how to find the rod and reel is Granny Sage, the mysterious old woman who lives in the Hockomock Swamps, but he finds that he needs Betty's help to remember Granny's instructions.
