“The Last Alarm”

In "The Last Alarm," Veronica finds herself stepping into a world far different from Riverdale’s usual charm when she visits Sue Stringly’s home on "the wrong side of the tracks," defying her mother’s warnings. Through Sue’s eyes, Ronnie discovers the quiet magic in a ramshackle house, a dog named Snuffles, and the wonder of stargazing through a hole in the roof—moments that quietly shift her perspective on where belonging truly lies. Written and drawn by Bob Bolling, with colors by Barry Grossman and letters by Bolling himself, this 1980 gem features a cover by Dexter Taylor.

Over her mother's objections, Veronica accepts an invitation to visit Sue Stringly's house on "the wrong side of the tracks." Sue proudly introduces Ronnie to her ramshackle house, the nearby coal yard, her dog Snuffles, and her favorite games like watching the shooting stars through the hole in her roof. After a day with Sue, Ronnie is convinced that it's her own family that lives on the wrong side of the tracks.
