The team forms when Lockjaw, the Inhumans' giant teleporting bulldog, is tasked with gathering a squad of super-powered pets and creatures to retrieve the Infinity Gems, leading to a whimsical quest across the Marvel Universe.
In "The Infinity Gems," Lockjaw stumbles upon the Mind Gem and races to Earth after a scolding from Medusa, setting off a chain of events that brings together an unlikely team of heroic pets. With Throg—the frog-powered Thor—leading the charge, Lockjaw teams up with Lockheed the dragon, Redwing the falcon, Hairball the cat, and Ms. Lion, Aunt May’s dog, on a quest to find the remaining Infinity Gems. Their journey takes them to the Savage Land, where danger lurks in the form of a dinosaur waiting to ambush them. Written by Chris Eliopoulos and illustrated by Ig Guara and Colleen Coover, with covers by Karl Kerschl, this 2009 Marvel adventure blends whimsy and wonder in a story where the smallest heroes might just hold the greatest power.
In "The Infinity Gems," Lockjaw stumbles upon the Mind Gem and flees to Earth, where he teams up with Throg—a frog-like hero wielding Thor’s powers—and a ragtag group of animal heroes including Lockheed the dragon, Redwing the falcon, Hairball the cat, and Ms. Lion. Together, they embark on a quest to gather the Infinity Gems, venturing into the perilous Savage Land where they uncover a gem and face a deadly dinosaur ambush.
In "We Are Simple Creatures on a Monumental Quest," the Pet Avengers—Jo, Lockjaw, and their furry allies—race through prehistoric peril in the Savage Land, chasing the third Infinity Gem amid towering dinosaurs and a surprisingly fierce Devil Dinosaur. With Zabu now part of the team, they must outwit a rampaging raptor and steal the gem from a guarded nest, all while navigating time, chaos, and the unpredictable tides of adventure.
In "We Are a Band of Brothers," the Pet Avengers race from the ocean depths to the halls of power, chasing the Infinity Gems through increasingly absurd terrain—complete with a presidential pup sporting a diamond-studded collar. When the gems finally unite, the team faces their greatest challenge yet: Thanos himself, arriving with a very serious look and an even more serious threat.
In "null," the Pet Avengers face off against Thanos on the White House lawn, fighting to protect the Infinity Gems and the fate of the universe. With Lockjaw’s courage and the power of the gems, he defeats Thanos and banishes him to another dimension, then uses the gems to forge a psychic bond among the team—ensuring they can reunite when danger calls.
In "Beginnings and Endings," frog Thor protects his amphibious community from a menacing alligator, but after the threat passes, he faces a quiet, heartfelt decision: to leave so his people can grow without him. The story captures a tender moment of sacrifice and growth, rendered with warmth and whimsy in this brief, poignant tale.
In "Prom Queen," Lockheed, the dragon-like alien from the Pet Avengers, steps out of his usual superhero role to lend a helping hand at a high school near the Xavier School. When a girl whose passion for dragons sets her apart faces ridicule from her peers, Lockheed’s unexpected visit becomes a quiet act of solidarity — not with a grand battle, but with the simple, defiant joy of being true to oneself.
