In "null," the Defensores are pulled from their Sanctorum by Doctor Strange’s Ojo del Mal, thrust into the Crusades where they battle the beast Temax and face off against the sorcerers Prester John, Mordred, and Chandu while trying to free King Richard the Lionheart from captivity. As the true owner of the Ojo del Mal reveals himself, the heroes are returned to their own time—only to part ways, leaving the Caballero Negro behind to serve the king.
