“Hollow Victory”

In "Hollow Victory," Phyllis—a young woman acutely aware of her place in the world—takes a bold, painful step to change it, chasing the affection of Chuck, Ellen’s wealthy boyfriend, not out of love but out of defiance. When Chuck’s father, her employer, forces the marriage, Phyllis finds herself trapped in a union that offers no joy, only a quiet, aching loss. Al Hartley’s expressive art brings emotional weight to this poignant tale, while Ken Bald’s cover captures its bittersweet tension.
