Failed actress Lila turns down a marriage proposal from restaurant owner Jack. She takes a job as a governess to Penny Lloyd, daughter of wealthy widow Alicia, hoping to meet a rich husband. Lila sets her sights on Wayne, who’s interested in Alicia, using her Broadway friend Sam to distract Alicia. Alicia is distraught when she sees Wayne kissing Lila, and tries to commit suicide. Alicia survives and reconciles with Wayne. Lila sees the error of her ways and returns to Broadway, possibly to marry Jack.
