“Search for Love!”

In "Search for Love!" from Love Diary #34 (1953), two lonely young women, Lynn and Betty, navigate the quiet ache of wartime separation when most of their peers are drafted. With the Glenville Social Club filled with men well past their prime, Lynn finds unexpected connection with Eddie—only to be shaken by his inappropriate behavior—before meeting Paul, a soldier on leave, whose presence stirs something deeper. Mort Leav handles both pencils and inks for the heartfelt, tender story, while John Buscema’s cover captures the bittersweet mood of longing and hope.

Lynn and Betty are lonely because most young men their age have been drafted. They visit the Glenville Social Club and find the male members are “well into their thirties.” Lynn hits it off with Eddie and dates him regularly, although her friends warn her about “older men” who chase “young girls.” Lynn meets Paul, a soldier on leave, and likes him. She breaks up with Eddie after he takes her to a cabin and gets lecherous, then becomes Paul’s girlfriend. Eddie tells Paul that Lynn’s a tease and gets punched for his trouble. Lynn will wait for Paul to return from Korea.
