Barby’s boss Ordway considers her the perfect secretary but new employee Tevis finds her “insufferable” in her “perfection.” He also suspects she’s trying to steal Ordway from his wife, Tevis’s sister. However, they fall in love and get engaged. Barby introduces him to her working-class sister Mae and Mae’s husband Jared, Barby’s ex-fiancé, but in such a way as to humiliate them. Tevis breaks up with her. When Mae falls ill, Barby nurses her and runs the household until she recovers. Tevis returns and they are reunited.
