When she learns her husband has been jailed in Shrinigar for fraud, Lydia and her daughter leave England for India. On the last leg of the journey, bad weather forces their plane to turn back to Jammu and they learn that it will be two days before any flights can be resumed. The passengers decide to travel by bus for the final two hundred miles over the dangerous mountain road.
