After Mary’s husband is killed in Korea, she gets a secretarial job to support her two children. A year later she begins to date Charles, who feels “awkward with kids around.” He urges Mary to send her children to live with their grandparents, so he and Mary can wed. He doesn’t “intend to be a breadticket for someone else’s children” and doesn’t “want them around to remind me of your life with another man.” Mary breaks up with him. Bob, an old Army buddy of her late husband, shows up and he’ll be Mary’s new husband and a father to her children.
