Larry asks his new wife Irene about her former boyfriend Ned. She tells the story in flashback: Ned claims to be an important businessman and lavishes gifts on her. He even gives her an engagement ring, which Irene discovers is a fake. Ned turns out to be a fake himself, and Irene breaks up with him. She now tells Larry that she returned all of Ned’s gifts except the ring, which she kept as a reminder of her foolishness. She also says her love for Larry is the real thing.
