The second volume of Imai Kami's Magaimono — billed as "Super Magic Action Entertainment" — delivers on that promise right from the cover, where a tall girl in a maid-style outfit and striped stockings clutches a smaller girl in a green dress as the two hover above a flying saucer, a massive reptilian creature looming ominously behind them. The neon-grid background and ornate border give the whole image a wonderfully retro sci-fi energy that sets the tone perfectly. If this slice of magical chaos grabbed you in volume one, the adventure here looks ready to escalate in every direction at once.
